My Imagination

Being that I'm a Pisces (and I'm sure all of you other Pisces out there can agree with me), I have a very wild and very vivid imagination, and one of the two things that I like to fantasize mostly about is winning the lottery. Now, don't take this short-story as a hidden message, cause I am BROKE ;-), but I just wanted to share one of my many Aimless Thoughts with you.

I've often talked about, and wondered along with my family, about how life would be if I was to hit the big-one. I've often gone as far as doing the math (taxes) and deciding who I would give money to, and how much, and everytime that I've mentioned the 'giving money part' to my family members, I've gotten the same answer every time. "You shouldn't have to worry about who you're giving money to! It's yours, and IF you decide to give money to whomever, they should be happy with whatever you give them, because they didn't have whatever you gave them to begin with", which could be true, but is NOT at all. If I was to win 1-million dollars/$600K after taxes (give or take), and ONLY gave my closest family members something like $5-$6K each, and bought myself a BMW 745Li (Charcoal Gray...my favorite car...which is $80K by the way), they would have a fit!!! There's no way they'd feel comfortable with me driving an $80K car, while they're still in debt, but only $5-$6K richer. They'd have something to say, and you know I'm right.

People always seem to say the noble thing when there's no real money involved, but when you actually get that money in your possession....things change. It's so bad with me and my friends that there have been times when I may have found $50 or so at work, and they wanted me to treat them to lunch and put gas in their pacers....I'm not feeling that! I'm the nicest person that anyone would ever want to meet, but I'm no push-over. Just because I found the money doesn't mean that it's a free-for-all. I may not have 'earned it', but it's mine.

Now, what would I do if I did win the big-one? I would definitely give my family and closest friends some cool loot, but I would not relieve them of their debts, and I would not buy all of them cars. I'm not going to go broke trying to be a good friend to you, but I would give enough to make sure that they didn't hate me and my good luck....but I would have my 745 ;-). I would definitely retire my mom and dad, and I would make sure that my little brother was able to get himself somewhere to live, cause I would definitely have my own place!!! ;-) Other than the basics like shopping and vacationing, I would seriously invest, and NEVER WORK FOR SOMEONE ELSE AGAIN!!! I would retire! What would y'all do if you hit the big-one? I would love to see if your imagination is anything like mine. Leave a comment if you'd like.

I think my imagination is wilder than yours even though I am not a pisces, we were just talking about that at work today and of course you have to be in it to win it and I haven't played in years. But if I did get in it and won I would share the wealth with my closet family members, I would get them out of debt as well as myself and I would purchase me a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house. The way my family is they wouldn't expect anything else once I got them out of debt but me knowing how I am I am more of a giver than a taker so eventually I would probrably do things here and there over the years.
Okay now you have me in fatasy land, I am going to dream winning the lotto (LOL) and atleast I am not cheap
(my coworker) says that all we would get is a free lunch:)

That's cold! Only a free lunch? What would they give you...some lunch-ables ;-).
I'm the same way. I am a big time giver, but I just wouldn't be taken advantage of. I would definitely get my family and close friends out of their immediate debt (not their stupid debt), and take them shopping or something.
You also made a good point about being in it to win it. I NEVER play the lotto, so how would I EVER win. Like I said, it's my WILD imagination ;-)

Oh I've got grants & scholarships too! It was stupid for me to have student loans this year because basically all of it was given right back to me in a refund check! Although... I do love getting a $3,000 check at the beginning of each semester! *giggle*

I got grants and scholarships too, but they never seemed like it was enough. That's why I made the mistake of accepting the loans...D'oh!

I did check out your pics-o-life site. It's pretty damn cool, and I love the picture of the snow ;-) You didn't get the comment that I left?

Glad to know I'm not the only one who figures out what I'd actually win after taxes and how I'd divide the money.

Honestly - it would depend on how much $ was won. I'd pay off my mortgage, go shopping, travel some more and invest the rest. I'm not about to retire on winning $1 mil. You can't retire on that. I do not believe it is my responsible to pay for my family/friends poor spending habits and bad debt.I agree that maybe some money would be gifted to family/friends. However - you really have to ask yourself, is this really helping them? Handing over $5K in cash to someone to do whatever they want with can further their financial problem. How about writing a check to the debt company they owe? That way you'd be sure you were actually helping a cause. Which would just make that credit available to them to go spend anyway. So really I don't agree with it. Some people need to get out of their debt situations on their own, to really appreciate how hard and for what they have worked for. And to also make sure they'll never let it happen again. Get it through to yourselves, if you don't have the money, don't spend. You shouldn't be going on vacations, or out to eat, or shopping when you can't even pay your rent or your car note. So, on that note, No I will not be giving my money that I have away. Pretty much the only person that will get anything from me will be my mother, for all she has done for me. And even then, she probably wouldn't accept it, because she has her own money. So the money would still be mine, and my child's. People always say what they "would" do if they won, but everyone knows once it actually happens, people don't do what they say they "would". So I'm telling you straight up, if it was me that won, don't expect a thing. If I feel like it, I'll do it. Don't hate... just keeping it real people.
